India produced its highest ever Coal production of 997.826 Million Tones (MT) in the financial year 2023-24, which shows a significant increase of 11.71% compared to the Coal production of 893.191 MT in the financial year 2022-23.
According to a Social Media Post of The Ministry of Coal, the ministry has seen a transformational year in 2024, with unprecedented achievements in production, sustainability and technological innovation. Under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the ministry is rapidly moving India towards developed India, strengthening energy security and promoting self-reliance.
Next Coal Production Target is 1.5 BT by 2030
According to the ministry, under the Integrated Coal Logistics Scheme, the Central Government has set a target of producing 1.5 Billion Tones (BT) coal by FY 2030. During the calendar year of 2024 (till 15th December, 2024), coal production reached a provisional 988.32 MT, showing a growth of 7.66% year-on-year. The Ministry of Coal said that the supply of Coal has also seen a significant increase, with a provisional supply of 963.11 MT of Coal till 15th December, 2024, which is 6.47% more than the previous year. Similarly, the power sector has received 792.958 MT of Coal, an increase of 5.02%. Apart from this, the non-regulated sector (NRS) saw an increase of 14.48%, with 171.236 MT supplied.
