The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) has issued notices to 123 stone crusher units and businesses in Sahibganj, directed them to pay their environmental compensation dues within one month. Failure to comply will lead to the closure of the units. The notice was issued under the direction of Rajeev Lochan Bakshi, the Secretary of the JSPCB, in accordance with orders from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The auction for coal blocks has entered its 11th round, with a total of 20 coal mines up for bidding, including five from Jharkhand. The Supreme Court on Tuesday (December 3, 2024) stayed the death sentence of a 30-year–old man convicted for the rape and murder of a 19-year-old engineering student in the Jharkhand capital Ranchi.
