Two Workers Died After Gas Exposure at Vedanta ESL Steel Plant

Bokaro: Two workers died after coming in contact with Gas at the Vedanta ESL Steel plant in Siyaljori, Bokaro, on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Sameer Ansari (M-24) from Digwadih in Dhanbad, and Sohan Mahto from Hazaribagh. The incident resulted concern among workers and families, while Police and Labour Department officials began looking into the circumstances of the accident.

According to the information available, the two workers were on duty at Blast Furnace-1 when they were exposed to Gas and their health deteriorated. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Police reached the plant after being informed about the incident and took the bodies into custody for the postmortem process. Labour Department officials also reached the site as part of the inquiry.

Sameer’s Death Leaves Family in Shock

Sameer, the only son of Naushad Ansari, was a resident of Islampur Basti in Digwadih. His father runs a ready made garments shop in the area. According to the family, Sameer had joined the plant around three years and two months ago and worked in rotational shifts. He had left home around 4am on Sunday for his first shift. His family was informed about the incident around 9 in the morning. News of his death led to mourning in Digwadih, with local residents reaching Bokaro to seek clarity on the incident and discuss compensation and management responsibility.

ESL Management Announces Independent Probe

ESL Steel Ltd. expressed condolences over the deaths and said the incident involved a company executive and an engineer from a business partner. The company said both were taken to hospital after the initial assessment and that support was being provided to the bereaved families. It also said an independent investigation would be conducted and appropriate steps would be taken based on its findings. The exact cause of the Gas exposure and the circumstances leading to the deaths are expected to become clear after the ongoing investigation.
