The team of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) in Ranchi has successfully discovered several important mines. Mining activities have already started in several mines, while excavation work is set to begin in others. Gold reserves have been found in the Bhitardarhi and Tamad regions in Potka block of East Singhbhum district, and the discovery has been confirmed. The Jharkhand Government has been informed about this. At the Radiant Jharkhand exhibition, which started on 20th February 2025, at the Ramada hotel in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, Akhauri Vishwapriya, the Deputy Director of GSI Ranchi, shared this information.
He said that currently, 99% of the Gold Mining in India is happening in Karnataka, while the mining in Jharkhand’s Kundurukocha contributes just 1%. However, with the commencement of Gold Mining in Bhitardarhi and Tamad, this percentage is expected to increase. These regions are to be auctioned by the Jharkhand State Government. Manmohan Minerals has already started mining activities in the Gold Mines found in Lava, near Chandil. Vishwapriya also informed that the team is currently exploring Lithium mines in the Koderma and Giridih regions, an important project for the Indian Government.
Additionally, large quantities of Graphite have been found in the Chatra-Palamu area. More than 10 new Graphite mines have been discovered in this region, and the auction for graphite will now be conducted by the Central Government. This discovery is expected to generate significant revenue for the state. He also mentioned that there could be Gold deposits in Copper excavation areas, and the department is studying this direction.
