Patratu: The NTPC Mazdoor Union, AITUC’s PVUNL unit, has demanded night allowance for manpower workers at Patratu from October and demanded that contract workers should not be removed without completing their full and final settlement. The issues were discussed at a union meeting held in Patratu on Sunday, where workers’ problems and employment opportunities for local youth at PVUNL were also taken up.

The meeting was chaired by Manoj Kumar Mahto, CPI’s local area secretary and secretary of the NTPC Mazdoor Union branch. Mahto said several issues raised by the union with PVUNL management were being considered. These included providing 75% manpower employment to local youth, rest rooms, clean drinking water, toilets, canteen facilities and bike parking. Other measures mentioned included paving work, CCTV cameras, security guards and speed breakers near both gates.
Night Allowance From October
Mahto said the union had also raised the issue of night allowance for organised manpower workers and welcomed the management’s decision to provide the allowance from October. He thanked the PVUNL management for taking up the workers’ concerns and said the union expected the remaining issues to be addressed in a similar manner.

The union, however, raised concerns over the working of agencies engaged by BHEL at the project. According to the union, contract workers were being removed without their full and final settlement being completed. The union said it would submit a written complaint to PVUNL management seeking intervention in the matter and a proper settlement of workers’ dues before their removal.
Union Warned of Phased Agitation
Mahto said the union expected a positive response from the management. If the concerns were not addressed, the union would consider a phased agitation, he said. The meeting was attended by Manoj Pahan, Naresh Bedia, Pradeep Singh, Anand Singh, Dharmendra Kumar, Alman Khan, Bhagat Mahto, Mohan Sahu, Jagdish, Jagannath Mahto, Chandan Kumar, Raju Paswan, Mukund Mahto, Rampreet Ganjhu, Jal Oraon, Phuleshwar, Satyanarayan Singh, Rajesh Ekka, Rajesh Thakur, Sandeep Thakur and Manish Kumar, among others.
