Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC), while hearing a tariff case involving Tata Power Company Ltd, directed the company to complete the Residual Life Assessment (RLA) process of its power plant and submit details of the timelines involved. The commission also sought a supplementary affidavit on the condition of the plant’s boiler, turbine and generator.
Commission Asked for Details on Plant Safety
The commission asked Tata Power to provide details of the measures being taken to ensure the safety of employees working at the plant. It also directed the company to submit the latest report of the Factory Inspector. Tata Power’s lawyers told the commission that a detailed supplementary affidavit covering the RLA schedule, safety standards and Factory Inspector’s report would be filed within the prescribed timeframe.

The proceedings relate to Case No. 18/2026, concerning Tata Power’s challenge to a commission order related to tariff. During the hearing, the commission noted that no consumer representative had appeared despite a public notice being issued in newspapers. To assist the commission on consumer related aspects of the case, advocate Shweta Rani was appointed as amicus curiae. Tata Power agreed to bear the legal fee of Rs. 5,000 per hearing for the amicus curiae.
Next Hearing on 29th September 2026
The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for 29th September 2026. Tata Power is expected to submit its supplementary affidavit before the next hearing, covering the timelines for the plant wide RLA process and the information sought by the commission. The bench comprising commission chairman Justice Navneet Kumar and member (Law) Mahendra Prasad directed Tata Power to place the required technical and safety information on record. The RLA assessment, condition of key generating equipment, employee safety measures and the Factory Inspector’s report will form part of the material before the commission as the tariff proceedings continue.
