Koderma: A fire broke out in a transformer near Turbine No. 2 at the Damodar Valley Corporation’s (DVC) Koderma Thermal Power Plant in Banjhedih resulted panic among workers at the facility. Two fire tenders were rushed to the site and brought the fire under control before it could spread to nearby equipment and other sections of the plant. The fire was reported from a transformer installed near Turbine No. 2. The transformer caught fire suddenly and flames quickly started from the equipment, caused concern among workers. The plant administration informed the fire department soon after the incident was noticed.

Two fire tenders reached the plant and fire personnel worked to contain the flames. The timely response prevented the fire from spreading to other equipment in the area. Plant officials later inspected the affected site and assessed the situation.
No Casualties Reported
No casualties were reported in the incident. A short circuit is being considered as a possible cause at the initial stage, but the exact reason has not yet been established. The plant administration has started an inquiry, and the actual cause is expected to be known after the investigation is completed.
Plant Currently Producing Around 1,000 MW
The incident comes as the Banjhedih based Koderma Thermal Power Station is currently generating around 1,000 MW of electricity. Two more units of 800 MW each are proposed at the plant, which would add 1,600 MW to its generation capacity. Construction and other related works for the proposed units are currently underway at the plant premises.
