Chatra: Chatra MP Kali Charan Singh raised concerns over the transportation and handling of fly ash around NTPC Tandwa during a meeting with the plant’s head of project, Manish Khetrapal, on Saturday. The MP questioned the manner in which fly ash was being transported and stored, saying it was contributing to pollution in areas around the plant and causing problems for local residents.

Singh said lapses in fly ash transportation were worsening the pollution situation in the surrounding areas. He asked NTPC officials to ensure that prescribed norms were followed during transportation and that necessary measures were taken to prevent ash from spreading. The MP said he had earlier brought pollution and other serious issues to the notice of the district administration through the deputy commissioner, but claimed that the situation had not improved on the ground.
Concerns Over Public Health and Road Safety
The MP also raised concerns over the possible health impact of exposure to fly ash. He said protection of public health should remain the priority and that people living around the affected areas were facing difficulties because of pollution. He also pointed to the road safety risk from wet fly ash falling on roads during transportation and subsequently drying, which, according to him, can make road surfaces hazardous for motorists.
NTPC Assured to Address the Problem
The meeting comes amid continuing concerns over fly ash management around the NTPC project area. Singh asked the NTPC authorities to take corrective measures and ensure that transportation and handling were carried out according to the prescribed standards.
