Bokaro: Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) on Tuesday launched another drive to clear residential quarters and houses in its Chandrapura colony for the proposed expansion of the Chandrapura Thermal Power Station. Officials, accompanied by CISF and DGR security personnel, visited around 100 quarters and houses in Pipe Side, Paschim Palli and Durgapur Dormitory areas and asked residents to vacate the premises.

The drive began around 9.45am from the Pipe Side area before the team moved to Paschim Palli and Durgapur Dormitory. DVC Chandrapura CGM cum Project Head R.K. Anubhavi spoke to residents in several quarters and issued directions to vacate. Employees with valid allotments were asked to apply for accommodation at another location, while those staying without valid allotments were told to vacate immediately. Residents of unauthorised houses were also directed to clear the premises.
DVC officials told residents that the areas required for construction of the proposed power plant would be cleared first and similar drives would be conducted in other parts of the colony as required. They also warned that electricity and water connections could be disconnected if occupants failed to vacate despite the directions. The presence of security personnel during the exercise led to concern among residents in the colony.
2×800 MW Plant Planned at Chandrapura
The quarter clearance is linked to the proposed new power plant at Chandrapura Thermal Power Station. The Ministry of Power’s 2025-26 annual report mentions the tendering of the main plant package for a 2×800 MW power project at Chandrapura. Senior DVC officials from O&M, electricity and land and estate departments, along with CISF and DGR personnel, were part of Tuesday’s drive. DVC has also recently issued a tender for maintenance-related work in the residential quarters, even as the colony is being cleared in areas identified for the new project.
