Hazaribagh: Villagers in Keredari block of Hazaribagh district organized a protest against the proposed Chatti Bariyatu (South) project of NTPC Mining Limited (MNL), saying they will not give their land for the project. The protest was organised by the Keredari Prakhand Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, with residents from several villages reached the block headquarters in a procession before staged a sit-in.

Those taking part in the protest said families displaced by earlier land acquisition in the area were still facing difficulties. Speakers claimed that several displaced families did not have proper houses and continued to face problems after giving up their land. Citing these experiences, the protesters said residents of Keredari would not give land for the proposed Chatti Bariyatu (CB South) project of NML.
The speakers also appealed to raiyats not to part with their land based on benefits or other offers that may be made by the company. They said land was directly linked to the livelihood and future of rural families and that the interests of affected villagers should be considered before any decision on land acquisition.
Memorandum Submitted to Governor
After the protest, a memorandum addressed to the Governor was submitted through the Circle Officer and Block Development Officer. The memorandum conveyed the villager’s opposition to giving land for the Chatti Bariyatu (South) project. The programme was chaired by block pramukh Sunita Devi and conducted by Suresh Saw. Several panchayat representatives, local leaders and residents from the affected areas attended the protest.
