Somnath Sarkar Taken Charge as General Manager, Operation and Maintenance at DVC KTPS

Koderma: Damodar Valley Corporation’s Koderma Thermal Power Station (KTPS) at Jayanagar has a new General Manager for Operations and Maintenance, with Somnath Sarkar taking charge of the post on Tuesday. His appointment comes at a time when the operations and maintenance function remains central to the day to day performance and reliability of a thermal power station.

A New Responsibility at KTPS

Sarkar assumed charge as General Manager (Operations & Maintenance), or GM (O&M), at DVC KTPS. He was received by Sanjay Kumar, Chief General Manager cum Project Head, and Tapas Mirdha, General Manager (AMS). Senior officers and other officials of the power station were present during the welcome programme.

The interaction at the station marked the beginning of Sarkar’s new assignment, with officials extending their good wishes for his tenure. The GM (O&M) post carries responsibility for the operational and maintenance functions of the power station, making it an important position in the plant’s day to day functioning.

Why O&M Matters at a Thermal Power Station

For a thermal power station, operations and maintenance directly affect equipment availability, generation reliability and the safe running of plant systems. Regular maintenance, timely attention to equipment and coordination among operating teams are important for keeping units available and avoiding avoidable disruptions.

At KTPS, Sarkar’s role will therefore involve working with the plant’s technical and operating teams as part of the station’s overall management structure. While no specific priorities or targets for his tenure were announced at the welcome programme, senior officials wished him a successful, pleasant and productive tenure at DVC KTPS.
