Gua: SAIL’s Gua management agreed to 15 demands raised by joint trade union representatives at a meeting organized on Friday, covering healthcare, education, sanitation, housing, transport and employment related issues. The management assured the unions that the agreed measures would be implemented soon, providing relief on several long pending issues concerning employees and the local community.
It was decided that Gua patients requiring specialised treatment would be referred to Noamundi Hospital or another suitable hospital depending on the medical requirement, without any restriction on referrals. The unions also submitted a proposal for CT scan and ultrasound facilities at Gua Hospital. The management agreed to provide a new ambulance equipped with modern facilities. To address the shortage of teachers at Gua Middle School, the process for appointing an ‘adopt teacher’ will also be started.

The management agreed to recruit additional sanitation workers and add three buses to the existing transport facility for employees. Repairs of old SAIL quarters will be carried out in phases, including replacement or repair of doors and windows, painting, tiles and false ceilings. The old electrical wiring in all SAIL quarters will also be replaced. A shed will be constructed over the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Contract Workers to Get Appropriate Grades and Pay Slips
The meeting also covered employment opportunities for diploma-holding youths from Gua village. Contract workers will be given the appropriate grade according to the nature of their work, while all contract employees will be provided joining letters and monthly pay slips. Contractors failing to follow the prescribed rules will face action. The management also agreed to start a night shift in the electrical department as required by employees and release pending allowances of employees whose payments had been withheld after retirement for not vacating quarters. The meeting was attended by SAIL CGM Chandrabhushan Kumar, CGM (HR) D. Satpathy, GM (HR) Praveen Kumar Singh and Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kumar Aman, besides representatives of several unions.
