Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) reviewed several major industrial and mining proposals, giving SAIL’s Jitpur Underground Coal Mine in Dhanbad two more years to complete its Remediation and Community Resource Plan. The authority also granted Terms of Reference (TOR) approval to Tata Steel’s Sijua Colliery for increasing production capacity, subject to compliance with safety standards, and cleared the company’s proposed industrial project in Seraikela-Kharsawan.
SAIL Got Extension for Jitpur Mine
SAIL’s Jitpur Underground Coal Mine was granted an additional two years to complete the required remediation and Community Resource Plan. The deadline has now been extended to 6th June 2028. The decision gives the project more time to complete the specified environmental and community-related work.
Tata Steel Got Two Key Approvals
Tata Steel’s Sijua Colliery received TOR approval for a proposed increase in production capacity, with the project required to follow the prescribed safety standards. The authority also cleared Tata Steel’s proposed new industrial project in Seraikela-Kharsawan. Both proposals were considered during the SEIAA review meeting.
P&M Mall’s Environmental Claims Rejected
The review also considered the environmental compliance case involving P&M Hightech City Centre Mall in Jamshedpur. The mall management had sought to count activities such as gaushala development, community development and school construction against the penalty. However, the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) found that the school building cited by the management had been completed before the mall received environmental clearance. The management also failed to produce concrete documents relating to the proposed green belt behind the mall. SEIAA accepted the SEAC findings and rejected the mall’s claims.
