Ranchi: The Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries has demanded 100 acres of land for developing an industrial area in the Palamu division, including Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar and Chatra districts. The demand was raised by chamber’s regional vice president Amit Jaiswal at a meeting in Ranchi on Tuesday, where the focus was on using local resources and agricultural produce to build industrial activity in the region.
Jaiswal also raised the issue of renewal of Khasmahal land in Garhwa. He said the lack of renewal had left several old buildings in the town in poor condition and was also affecting the construction of new commercial buildings. The chamber sought a resolution to the Khasmahal land issue so that commercial and industrial activities could expand in the town.

The chamber proposed setting up processing units based on agricultural produce in the Palamu division. Such units, it said, could give farmers a local market for their produce while creating employment in the area. It also suggested developing bamboo based cottage industries, saying locally available resources could support small businesses and provide jobs in rural areas. The chamber also sought Government intervention to speed up work related to installing gates at Mandal Dam.
Chamber Seeks Restart of Bauxite Mining in Latehar
Jaiswal also raised the issue of Bauxite mining in Latehar, which, according to the chamber, had stopped around five years ago after Hindalco had begun operations. He sought intervention to restart the mining activity. The chamber said development of industries based on local minerals and agricultural resources could create new opportunities for employment and business in the Palamu division.
