Kolkata: Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy is expected to hold a two days review meeting at Coal India Ltd’s corporate headquarters in Kolkata on 28th and 29th September 2026, with production and dispatch, new projects, the Jharia Master Plan and coal gasification likely to be among the main agenda items. The meeting will come shortly after a review of Coal India’s operations by Prime Minister’s adviser Tarun Kapoor, putting the company’s production, supply and project progress under close scrutiny at the top level.
Production and Dispatch on the Agenda
The minister is expected to review the progress of Coal India and its subsidiaries, including the pace of production, dispatch and implementation of new projects. Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt is also expected to attend, along with Coal India chairman B. Sai Ram and the CMDs of its subsidiary companies. The review is also likely to cover the working of officials and the progress of ongoing plans.

Recently, PM Modi’s adviser Tarun Kapoor also chaired a review meeting at Coal India’s Kolkata office on 25th September 2026, covering production and supply performance, measures to increase coal supplies to thermal power plants, diversification and coal gasification. Coal India has produced more than 310 million tonnes of coal so far this financial year and supplied over 371 million tonnes, including more than 291 million tonnes to the power sector.
Jharia Plan and Gasification Also Under Review
The proposed ministerial review comes as Coal India continues to work on maintaining supplies to the power sector while taking forward diversification and coal gasification projects. The Ministry of Coal has also been pushing gasification projects, with the government approving a Rs. 37,500 crore scheme for surface coal/lignite gasification in May 2026. The 28th and 29th September 2026 meeting is therefore expected to take stock of both immediate supply requirements and the progress of longer-term projects, including the Jharia Master Plan.
