Bokaro: Officers of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) at the General Manager rank and above have got an opportunity to apply for senior positions in MECON Ltd, ONGC and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL). The Ministry of Steel has started the process for appointments to the posts of CMD and directors in these companies.

Applications have been invited for the CMD cum Managing Director at MECON, Director (Technical) at ONGC and Director (Commercial) at RINL. The last date for applying for the MECON post is 1st October 2026, while applications for ONGC and RINL can be submitted by 30th September and 13th October, respectively. Officers selected through the process will be interviewed online before the final appointment.
Vacancies Being Prepared in Advance
The recruitment process is also linked to upcoming vacancies in the two steel-sector PSUs. MECON CMD Sanjay Kumar Verma and RINL Director (Commercial) GVN Prasad are scheduled to retire on 31st August 2027, after which the respective posts are expected to fall vacant from 1st September 2026. The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PSEB) has therefore begun the process ahead of the vacancies.

SAIL Director (Personnel) KK Singh and Bhilai Steel Plant Director In-Charge Chitranjan Mahapatra are scheduled to retire on 31st July 2027. SAIL CMD’s tenure runs until 31st December 2029, while other serving directors also have longer tenures. The openings in other PSUs therefore provide serving SAIL GMs, CGMs and EDs an opportunity to seek higher level assignments outside the company.
