The Bhartiye Janta Party (BJP) has made a series of organisational changes in Jharkhand, bringing in a new state in-charge, two co-in-charges and a new state general secretary (organisation). Gajendra Singh Patel has been appointed Jharkhand in-charge, while Saurabh Singh and Nivedita Singh will assist him as co-in-charges. Patel is a national general secretary and Lok Sabha member from Khargon in Madhya Pradesh.

The reshuffle has also brought Pawan Sai to Jharkhand as the state general secretary (organisation). Sai was earlier handling the same responsibility in Chhattisgarh, while Karmveer Singh, who held the post in Jharkhand, has been moved to Chhattisgarh. Saurabh Singh, one of the new co-in-charges, has also been associated with the Chhattisgarh organisation and currently heads the Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation, according to reports.
Tribal Representation Has Featured in the New Team
Patel comes from the tribal community and represents the reserved Khargon Lok Sabha constituency. Pawan Sai is also from Chhattisgarh and has been given charge of the organisational machinery in Jharkhand. BJP leaders and reports have linked the appointments with the party’s focus on organisational work and its outreach in a state where tribal voters form a significant part of the electorate. The party has also placed Jharkhand leaders Pradeep Verma and Anant Ojha in organisational roles in Uttar Pradesh.
Giridih Bypoll Will Be an Early Test
The new team will have to settle into its responsibilities as the BJP prepares for its next electoral challenges in the state. The Giridih Assembly seat fell vacant after the death of JMM MLA and minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, who had won the constituency in both 2019 and 2024. A bypoll is expected to be the first immediate electoral test for the parties as they work on candidate selection and campaign planning.
