Latehar: A Gram Sabha was organized in Banharadi village of Chandwa block on 30th September 2026 to discuss the process related to the Forest Rights Act for the proposed Banharadi Coal Block of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a joint venture of NTPC and PUVNL . The meeting focused on the No Objection Certificate (NOC) required under the Act and was led by Chandwa Circle Officer Sumit Jha. Village head, mukhiya, other elected representatives and local residents attended the meeting.
Officials Explain Forest Rights Provisions
During the meeting, Jha explained the provisions of the Forest Rights Act, the rights of villagers and the prescribed procedure to be followed in matters related to forest rights. He also explained the role of the Gram Sabha and various stages of the process. Officials from the Chandwa circle and other concerned departments were present during the discussion.

Villagers placed their views and suggestions regarding the proposed coal block before the Gram Sabha. The issues raised by them were heard during the proceedings. PVUNL officials also shared information about the proposed activities and facilities that would be provided by the company in connection with the project.
Process Conducted in Peaceful Atmosphere
The Gram Sabha was conducted in a peaceful and cordial atmosphere, with officials providing information on the Forest Rights Act and listening to the views of residents. The participation of village representatives, government officials and PVUNL representatives provided a platform for discussion on the statutory process linked to the proposed coal block.
