Deoghar: Godda MP Dr Nishikant Dubey has been reappointed chairperson of the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, giving him a second consecutive term at the helm of the parliamentary panel. He has also been made a member of the Standing Committee on Commerce as part of the reconstitution of parliamentary standing committees for 2026-27. The new committee structure is effective from 26th September 2026.
Second Consecutive Term at IT Panel
The Communications and Information Technology Committee deals with parliamentary scrutiny of subjects related to communications and information technology and examines the functioning of the ministries and departments under its jurisdiction. The committee has 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. Dubey had also chaired the panel during the previous committee term, and official parliamentary records show him presiding over reports on issues including artificial intelligence, telecom and the Department of Posts.

Nishikant Dubey will now also serve on the Standing Committee on Commerce, adding a second committee responsibility for the 2026-27 term. The committee examines matters relating to commerce and scrutinises the policies, schemes, budget demands and functioning of the ministry concerned. His role as a member will involve participation in committee meetings, discussions and parliamentary scrutiny of these matters.
What the IT Committee Will Examine
The Communications and Information Technology panel has a broad remit covering sectors such as telecommunications, information technology and related government programmes. During the current Lok Sabha, the committee under Dubey has already examined subjects including the impact of artificial intelligence and issues concerning the Digital Bharat Nidhi, while also taking evidence from government departments and industry representatives on telecom manufacturing and consumer-related issues.
