NHAI Planned Four Lane Road Link Sahibganj and Godda with Deoghar

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has drawn up a plan to build a 49.5 km four lane road between Mirzachauki and Mahagama, a project that is expected to improve road connectivity between Sahibganj and Godda and make travel towards Deoghar and Ranchi easier. The proposed road will form an extension of NH-133 and connect with NH-33 (old NH-80) at Hajipur in Sahibganj.

The proposed 49.5 km stretch, around 22.5 km will pass through Sahibganj district, while the remaining portion will fall in Godda. Once completed, the road is expected to reduce the distance between Sahibganj and Deoghar by around 20–25 km. It will also provide a more direct road link between Santhal Pargana and the adjoining districts of Bihar’s Seemanchal region.

NHAI has already completed around 60 km of the NH-133 between Mahagama and Hansdiha, and traffic is running on the stretch. The agency had been considering ways to connect NH-133 with NH-33 for some time. An earlier proposal to widen the Mahagama-Ekachari road was found unsuitable, following which the present plan to connect the Hansdiha-Mahagama section with NH-33 at Mirzachauki was prepared.

Proposal to Go to Union Ministry

NHAI Sahibganj director Anurag Gupta discussed the proposal with the Deputy Commissioners of Godda and Sahibganj respectively. Both districts have given their consent to the proposal, following which it will be sent to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. If approved by the ministry, the process of land acquisition and other preparatory work will begin.

The proposed road could also provide a shorter route for people travelling from Katihar, Purnia and Kishanganj towards Deoghar. With the Ganga bridge expected to be completed next year, vehicles from these districts will be able to cross the river and take the Mirzachauki-Mahagama route towards Deoghar. The connectivity could also make travel from Godda towards Siliguri easier. Separately, the tender process for the proposed four-lane road between Hansdiha and Deoghar has already been completed, with work expected to begin soon.
